Fondata nel 1982 a Dallas, in Texas, nel 2008, Wyndham ha fatto le sue prime acquisizioni, Microtele Hawthorn Suites di Hyatt. Nel 2010, la società ha acquisito il marchio TROP di Sol Meliá Hotels & Resorts in Spagna. Nel 2017, Wyndham ha lanciato iThe Marketmark Hotel Collection e nel 2018 la società ha acquistato il marchio La Quinta, una collezione di 900 hotel, la maggior parte delle quali situata in Nord America.
Oggi Wyndham è il più grande franchisor alberghiero al mondo, con oltre 9.000 strutture e 25 marchi in 95 paesi. La società è particolarmente nota per i suoi brand economici, che includono Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Super 8 e Ramada. Ma Wyndham gestisce anche marchi di lusso come Wyndham e Dolce Hotels and Resorts.
